Jerome Library Open House
On
Tuesday, July 24, the Jerome Library Advisory
Committee and Volunteers held an open house
at the Jerome Library. It was a very successful
event with many of the Jerome residents
touring the Library and enjoying cake and
punch.
The Library Committee and
Volunteers have done an excellent job putting
the Library together, with rooms for adults
and a terrific kids room. I encourage everyone
to visit and make use of our Library.
Click
here to view photos of
the open house! Our
Library hours are currently every Monday
from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.
and from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
The Library Committee is working on expanding
the hours
to include time on Saturday.
Watch for an announcement in a future Bulletin. I
personally want to thank all the volunteers
who have put in countless
hours to make our Library such
a great success.
Harry E. Stirmell
Village President
The Village of Jerome 4th
of July parade went off without a hitch
this year, despite an early morning shower
that threatened to dampen our resolve.
Debbie Ross kicked things off with a rousing
rendition of America the Beautiful. The
parade then followed. During and after
the parade, volunteers and Village Trustees
were serving hot dogs, chips, drinks, and
ice cream.
In a program funded by the
Mason's of Illinois, the Jerome Police,
Central Lodge #71 and Pyrian Lodge #333
were on hand to create child identification
packets for parents. Many parents and grandparents
took children through the process, which
the children appeared to enjoy.
The Village Board
would like to thank all the volunteers
who helped make the event possible.
In addition to all the Trustees and residents
who worked hard to make the event happen, we
would like to thank the following:
For their generous donations, we
extend our appreciation to this group
of Jerome businesses on Wabash Avenue:
Shop 'N' Save
Road Ranger
Ace Hardware
Famous Liquors
We thank these fine
Springfield businesses for their contributions:
G. F. S. (Gordon Food Service)
Athletic Care, who contributed water
bottles for distribution
Ed Canny of Caldwell Banker, who contributed
the flags lining the parade route
the Mason's of Illinois, who funded
the Safe Kid ID program
The next list is of parade
participants to whom we extend our communal
gratitude:
Springfield Fire Station #9
The State Journal Register
Salvation Army
Senator Larry Bomke
114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry
Boy Scout Troop 210
Protective Order of Elks Lodge #158
Jim Walker

Vietnam Veterans of America #534
Jerome United Methodist Church

And, once again, a big thanks
to the Village of Jerome Employees, Jerome
Police, the Jerome Village President and
Board of Trustees, and all the residents
and friends of the Village who helped or
attended the event. We'll see you again
next year!

YARD
WASTE PICK-UP RESUMES
Yard waste pick-up will
resume Wednesday, March 14,
2007 and continue each Wednesday
through May 16, 2007. In
the fall, yard waste pick-up
will resume on Wednesday,
September 26, 2007 and continue
each Wednesday through Wednesday,
November 28, 2007, with the
exception of Wednesday, November
21, 2007 when there will
be no yard waste pick-up.
YARD
WASTE IN PLASTIC BAGS WILL
NOT BE PICKED UP
Leaves are to be placed
in paper yard bags or
trash containers that
are
marked "YARD WASTE." If
trash cans are not marked
they will not be
emptied.
Bags or cans are to be
placed as close to the curb as possible,
but not in the street. Bags that are
lined up close to the house or in the
yard but away from the street will
not be picked up. Your assistance in
placing these containers as close to
the street as possible to help the
pick-up run smoothly is appreciated.
If residents have parking
areas (gravel, asphalt, etc.) bags
can be placed in
that area for pick up.
Bags should NOT be placed
in gutters or other areas that will
block storm
water drainage.
Gum balls cannot be put
out for pick up, as the area where
we dump the
yard waste will not take them. HOWEVER, you can put your gum
balls in
with your regular garbage pick-up. The garbage companies will
take the
gum balls.
Branch pick-up is scheduled
for the following dates:
March 26
May 21
July 23
October 15

April 9
June 4
August 6
October 29

Limbs
are to be put out the weekend
before the date
listed.
Remember that branches are
not logs or twigs. The
Public
Works Department will pick
up brush and limbs that
are
of reasonable length to handle
(8 ft. or less)
and
are at the edge of your property
on Limb Pick-Up
Day.
All branches are to be placed
at the end of your
yard
and not on the road. The Village
does not pick
up
tree trunks, even if they are
cut up. If they are put
out
at the curb they will be left
behind. If your limbs
are
not out when we come by, you
will have to wait
until
the next scheduled pick-up.
There will be NO charge
for the limb pick-up, except
for extra large accumulations
from one residence that fill
at least half a truck.

Many
of you may know of our web site, but
either haven't utilized it or do not

hearing these comments, we are implementing
some changes.
We
are asking for information from you,

to share with other residents to garage
sale notices to individual awards or recognitions to postings
of services being offered such
as cutting grass, etc. We want our
bulletin and web page to be even more
interactive, and contain more information
important and useful to our residents.
Information
should be submitted in writing to my
attention at the Village offices. Information
will be printed in the order received
and as space allows on the web site
and in the bulletin. Further, the Village
